Happy Mother’s Day

Mom

“There is an instinct in a woman to love most her own child – and an instinct to make any child who needs her love, her own.”  ~Robert Brault

I consider myself fortunate to have had more than one mother in my life. Each have given me many gifts, just by being who they are.

To my birth mother, I thank her for life, love and for the sacrifice she made to give me a better life. Without her, I would not exist.

To my Aunt Sarah, who raised me as her own, I thank her for unconditional love, guidance and selflessness.

To my paternal Grandmother, a widow who raised nine children during the depression, I thank her for her love, and incredible strength and teaching by example.

To my mom-in law Bryna (Mom), I thank her for her love and acceptance. She always made me feel like her birth daughter.

To my friend Gloria, whom I’ve adopted as my surrogate mom. I thank her for her friendship, love, and authenticity.

All of these women have helped shape my life in ways they may never know. I understand that not everyone is fortunate to have a mother with whom they have a close relationship. For that reason, as well as my own experiences, I chose the opening quote.  Open your heart, and you will find the love you seek.

  1. My mother, too, was adopted. Her mother died when she was born and her father shortly thereafter. Mom was fragile and not expected to live, which did not fit in with Mama’s plans. Not only did she make it, my mom was 86 when she died. Love is a most amazing and powerful force, and the only one in the world which no defenses can keep out. Mothers rock!

    • Thanks for sharing that Melody, I love your mom’s determination, amazing what that and love gets us through!

  2. Hi D, Is it ok with you if I follow your blog? I don’t want to peek anywhere that you want to be yours alone, but I do love seeing your thoughts. 🙂 I am very proud of you.

  3. Liz, you’re so sweet and considerate, thank you for even thinking to ask. I’m an open book, no secret areas that you’re restricted from 😉 Thank you.
