A Cycle of Change
Do you ever have those times where it seems like absolutely everything in your life is changing all at once? I’m usually the first to embrace change – I get bored when things stay the same for too long. Some of the changes in my life are happy ones – our youngest son graduated from high school and will be moving into the next chapter of his life – I see that as an exciting change.
A dear friend is moving soon and I’m really going to miss her, but I’m happy that she too will be entering a new chapter of life. I have no doubt we’ll stay in touch which makes the transition easier.
The changes that can be difficult are those that involve a major life transition. I have two very dear friends who are currently facing major life changes. Both are very vibrant, active and independent individuals. The change they are facing involves some limitations or adaptations to life as it used to be. Mobility and things like travel won’t be as they once where. In one case it involves “the big C”. Thankfully, they have both remained positive and upbeat throughout the process.
I admire and am inspired by their courage and fortitude. Their attitude is what made me choose the opening quote. I cannot anticipate more or less than the situation is – by resisting the change that is, I would in fact be creating sorrow. Instead, I will accept the reality that is, and accept that which I cannot change. I am eternally grateful for the people in my life, and I will appreciate them fully for as long as our lives are entwined and beyond.
What lessons has change taught you?
